Championship Games...things of beauty

The 9U, 10U and 11U League Championship games were played last night and between the 3 Games, there a total run differential of 4 runs.  These great contests were a poetic way to end this Season.

Stallions Baseball 4    Force Blue Sox 2

The Stallions Baseball Cub defeated the Force Blue Sox 4-2 in the 9U League Championship.  The Force Blue Sox jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and held that lead all the way to the bottom of the 5th inning.  In the bottom of the 5th inning, the score was locked at 2-2 when Zach Gaines hit a rope down the right field line with the bases loaded.  Gaines' double drove in the two deciding runs making the score 4-2.  The Force Blue Sox were not ready to give in. In the top of the 6th, the Blue Sox had 2 big clutch hits to threaten the Stallions.  A one out double got the Force rolling in the 6th.  The next batter hit a deep bomb to CF.  However, once again, Zach Gaines stole the show.  Gaines, playing CF, retrieved the bomb that was hit over his head on one bounce and threw a perfect strike to 3B getting the lead runner out for the second out of the inning.  The base runner delayed to make sure that the baseball was not caught on a fly and that gave Gaines enough time to throw from CF to 3B.  Two batters later, the Stallions Pitcher struck out the Force for the last out.  What a game!

10U League Championship

Andy's Niners  3   Mentor Cardinals  2

Unquestionably, the 10U Division in the Buckeye Baseball League is one of the most talented grouping of Teams in a League in the Midwest.  Tonight's League Championship game was further truth of this fact.  Andy's talented squad jumped out in front early in the game 2-0 with timely hitting, solid pitching and flawless defense.  However, the Mentor Cardinals, who were equally impressive, were not going to go away without a fight.  In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Cardinals evened the score at 2-2.  In the top of the 6th inning, Andy's managed to get a runner in scoring position for 2B Joey Salerno.  Salerno, an outstanding base runner and fielder, rocketed a grounder up the middle through the heart of the Cardinal defense delivering the game winning RBI.  Andy's held off the mighty Cardinals in the bottom of the 6th inning in order to secure the 3-2 League Championship victory.
